The Bear Lake Marathon...And The Fun It Brought

So last Friday we went up to Bear Lake with my parents. They were holding the First Annual Bear Lake Marathon. All Aboard for a Cure (which my Mom started) was one of the sponsors. Therefore, my mom and I made all of the awards. They had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for men and women, in all different age brackets for the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K. This turned out to be 113 awards, and MANY sleepless nights! My parents brought up their RV and stayed at a campground. However, since we went camping the week before, I had spent the whole previous week working on awards and had gotten a grand total of 5 hours of sleep the entire week (which all came on day 4 of no sleep), Chad surprised me and told me we were staying at this cute little cabin.

After dropping our stuff off at the cabin Mom and Dad took us out to dinner. This chair was sitting in the entrance...doesn't it just look ridiculously comfortable?! Ok maybe not, but I thought it was awesome!
Bright and early Saturday morning Mommo left to run the Half Marathon. While she was running, Chad, Daddio, and I setup the awards table.

This is acutally only about half of the awards!

This just sat on the table with all of the All Aboard stuff.

This is what the awards looked like...and can I just say those little letters were a pain in the butt!!!

Once they started announcing winners is where we ran into problems. We were handing them out and then they started announcing the wrong age catagories. Because there weren't very many people signed up for the full Marathon they combined a few of the age brackets and he had figured out placings for the half with the age catagories for the full. It was a nightmare!! We were all so frustrated and tired. So while they were trying to fix their screw up we sat around and waited...and waited...and waited. By the time they had it figured out, all of the runners were sick of waiting so they left, and there were only a handful left. Only about 25 awards were given out, and only a handful of those went to the right people. During all of the chaos a lady came up to us complaining telling us she got 1st place and picked it up and left. Pretty sure I just watched her walk away and laugh! I mean, what am I supposed to do chase her!

The good news for US is that we don't have to ship all of those awards out. The bad news is that once they figure it out they are going to send us a list of awards that have to be remade! Not looking forward to that, but hey what can you do right?!

After the frustrations of the marathon we came back to our little cabin to find a new friend on our porch. He kept watch while we packed up and hauled things to the car. I wanted to take him home with me, but even if Chad would have let me he wouldn't have come...he had no intention of leaving his post. I'm not sure why in the picture it looks like he's growling, because he never made a sound.

Of course while we were up there we had to stop and get a raspberry shake. I mean they are famous for them! So we stopped at Merlin's and got our shakes and some burgers...the food was AMAZING!!!
